OUR SERVICES
NAHDIC was established in 1995 as Central Disease Investigation Laboratory (CDIL) at the beginning. Later in 1997 its mandate was modified to engage it self on research organized under the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization (EARO) and this was extended until 2007. However, as of may 2007 the mandate was revised and the now National Animal Health Diagnostic and Investigation Center (NAHDIC) have been nominated to be a national referral and reference laboratory and undertake the following major national and international activities:

Disease Surveillance and Monitoring
Conduct national surveillances on Transboundary Animal Diseases and document their distribution and magnitude, to be used for disease prevention and control intervention

Disease Outbreak Investigation and Research
Identify the causative agents and forward prevention and control recommendations for disease outbreaks whenever beyond the diagnostic capacity of regional state veterinary laboratories

Health Assurance Certification of export and import animals
Health assurance certificate are provided not only for exporting animals but also for those animals which are imported from other countries will be provided.

Laboratory Quality Assurance and Capacity Building
The maintenance of a quality management system is crucial to NAHDIC for providing the correct test results every time.
NAHDIC's Laboratory Capacity
To make core activities possible, NAHDIC Owens more than ten quality laboratories that actively function in various disciplines.
- Four of the laboratories are engaged on the field of microbiology (viral and bacterial serology, one bacteriology, one for cell culture and virus isolation),
- two for parasitology (protozoology, acarology-entomology-helminthology),
- one for pathology with its autopsy facilities,
- one for pharmacology- toxicology,
- one for molecular diagnosis and one BSL-3 laboratory for the diagnosis of HPAI and other zoonotic diseases.
- Beside NAHDIC has experimental and laboratory animal facilities to conduct animal health experiment to solve animal health problems.
