National Animal Health Diagnostic & Investigation Center (NAHDIC) in collaboration with the United States Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) under Cooperative Biological Engagement Program (CBEP) has begun implementing a program that will improve the Laboratory biorisk management system at the institute.  As a result training was conducted for biological safety officers and biorisk management responsible persons on the basics of biorisk management system from September 04– 08, 2017 at NAHDIC in Sebeta, Ethiopia. This training was supported by USA, DTRA under CBEP program and Instructors from Black and Veatch, INSPIRION BIOSCIENCES delivered the courses. The training targeted 21 selected laboratory staffs from National Animal Health Diagnostic and Investigation Center and introduced functional areas of a Biorisk Management System (BMS) especially on laboratory biosafety and biosecurity. Improving the knowledge and skill on biosrisk management system will directly impact the implementation and success of the Biorisk Management System at NAHDIC and similar training will continue in the future for different target groups including regional laboratory experts.
