Assosa Regional Veterinary Laboratory
The Assosa Regional Veterinary Laboratory is located in the South west of Benshangul Gumuz Regional State. Currently the laboratory has started to give diagnostic and surveillance services to the livestock population in the region estimated to be about 309627 Cattle, 58767 sheep, 200470 goats, 2000 Mules, 30952 asses and 559 horses.

Bahir Dar Animal Diseases Investigation and Diagnostic Laboratory
The Bahir Dar Animal Diseases Investigation and Diagnostic Laboratory is one of the two laboratories established in Amhara Regional State and is located at Bahir Dar city. The laboratory is responsible to provide services to the western Amhara zones and also to the neighboring Benshangul Gumz Regional State. The laboratory has the responsibility to carry out livestock disease investigation and surveillance in 5 zones of Amhara (North and South Gonder, West and East Gojjam, Awi) and in three Zones of Gumz namely Asosa, Metekel and Kamashi.  According to Central Statistics Authority Agricultural Sample Survey 2003-04, the population size of livestock under the BRVL operational area is about 5.5 million cattle, 4.0 million shoats, 0.8 million equines and around 6 million poultry.

Dire Dawa Regional Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory
Dire Dawa regional laboratory is one of the oldest labs established in 1986 and located 525 km east of Addis Ababa. Initially the lab was intended to serve for the former Hararghe province which include the current administrative areas of Diredawa city council, Harari state, Somali region, east and west Hararghe zones of Oromia region. Following the establishment of regional states in the country, Hirna laboratory was established to serve East and West Hararghe zones and Jijiga vet lab to serve the Somali region. Thus, currently the operational area of Diredawa lab is confined to Diredawa City council, Harari region, and sometimes Shinele zone of Somali region.

Hirna Regional Veterinary Laboratory Assessment Report
The Hirna Regional Veterinary laboratory (HRVL) is one of the four veterinary laboratories (Assela, Bedelle, Yabello and Hirna) in Oromia. It was established in 2001 by the National Livestock Development Project (NLDP) which was financed by African Development Bank. HRVL operates in Eastern and Western Hararghe zones of Oromiya region that comprise 29 districts.  Eastern and Western Hararghe is characterized by mixed crop livestock farming practice with a livestock population of around 6 million including 1.9 million cattle, 2 million shoats, 280, 000 equines, 35 000 camels and 1.8 million poultry.

Jijiga Regional Veterinary Laboratory
The Jijiga veterinary laboratory was established by the National Livestock Development Project with the aim to support livestock production in 53 woredas of the Somali Regional State. It started to operate since December 2009. The pastoral and agro-pastoral communities of the region are mainly relied on livestock production for their subsistence. The livestock population in Somali region composed of 3 million cattle, 2 million camel and 17 million shoats (9 million sheep, 8 million goats) which constitute around 25% of the national flock population. Small ruminants (Ogaden Black Head sheep and goats) are important export commodities to the Middle East markets.  The laboratory has also additional responsibility in supporting the Haroressa quarantine station (under the Federal MoARD) with regards to certification of livestock for export market.

Kombolcha Animal Diseases survey, Research and Diagnosis Laboratory
Kombocha Animal Diseases survey, Research and Diagnosis laboratory was established in 1987 through upgrading of existing clinic which was operational since 1971.The operational area of the laboratory is eastern Amhara region comprising Waghamera, North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shoa and Ormoia Zone. A total of 50 districts are known to exist in these five zones. The livestock population in the operational areas includes around 4 million cattle, 3.3 million sheep. 2.4 million goats, 113,000 horses, 70,000 donkeys, 54,000 mules, 17,000 camel and 4 million poultry.

Mekele Regional Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory (MRVDRL)
The Mekele Regional Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory (MRVDRL) have been established in 1996 under the Tigray Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development (TBoARD). The technical and material capacities was built by the 4th Livestock Development Project and National Livestock Development Program.  The operational area of the laboratory in Tigray region comprise different agro-climatic zones of which 12% (highland), 49% (midland) and 35% (lowland) with a livestock population size of about 3.04 million cattle, 2.4 million shoats, 0.3million equines, 13000 camels, 3.7 million poultry and 130 000 bee colonies.

Semera Regional Veterinary Laboratory (SRVL)
Semera laboratory is located in Semera town which is about 580 km from the capital, Addis Ababa, on the main road to Djibouti. Semera Veterinary Laboratory (SVL) is one of the newly established regional laboratories which became operational since 2008. Just like the other veterinary laboratories, Semera veterinary laboratory is established with the objective to improve the veterinary service of the country in general and the Afar region in particular. Its operational area is in Afar Regional State which is located in the North Eastern part of the country bordering with Tigray region and Eriteria in the North, Oromiya region in the South, Somali region in the South East, Amhara region in the South west, Tigray region in the North west and with Djibouti republic in the East respectively.

Shola Veterinary Laboratory
The Shola / regional veterinary laboratory was established in 1972 as the only national veterinary laboratory in the country. Initially it was run mostly by expatriate staff until 1969 when it was totally taken over by the Ministry of Agriculture and served as a central disease investigation laboratory in the ensuing years. Following the establishment of regional laboratories in the various parts of the country, decentralization and the establishment of the Central Disease Investigation Laboratory (CDIL/NAHDIC) in Sebeta in 1995, the role of Shola laboratory become weaken. Most of the senior laboratory experts and equipments were taken by the CDIL which further weaken the lab. The lab was also left out from the support by National Livestock Development Project (NLDP) when all the remaining regional veterinary laboratories benefited in getting major laboratory equipments. Currently, it is accountable to Urban Bureau of Agriculture under Addis Ababa City Administration. It provides diagnostic services to the peri-urban animal husbandry with a population of about 97215 cattle, 29682 sheep, 18861, 100163, poultry, 19623 donkeys, 809 Mules, 4231 bee colony. The laboratory is providing limited disease diagnostic services to livestock owners in the peri-urban areas of Addis Ababa, mainly on request. The large number of livestock getting service from this laboratory is intensively managed high grade dairy cattle and commercial poultry flocks.

Sodo Regional Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratory
The laboratory is one of the oldest regional laboratories in the country and was established in 1978 through upgrading of the WADU veterinary clinic.  It is one of the laboratories in Southern Nations and Nationalities Regional State (SNNPR) with its operational area covering 7 zones and 6 special districts namely Debub Omo, Gamogffa, Wolaita, Dawro, Hadiya, Kambat-Tambaro, Sidama, Gedeo, Gurage, Silti, Burgi special woreda, Amaro special woreda, Konso Special woreda, Derashe special woreda, Basketo special woreda, Kontal special woreda and Alaba special woreda.

The Yabello Regional Veterinary Laboratory is located at 570km from Addis Ababa to the south of the country in Borena Zone, Yabello town in Oromiya Regional State. It gives service to pastoral areas of Borena, Guji and Bale. Its operational area is bordering Kenya.
